Energy Grants, Funding & Schemes

Want to save energy, reduce your bills and lower your carbon emissions? Here are the schemes, grants and funding available to help with energy efficient improvements.

What funding is available and who is eligible?

Home efficiency grants offer funding for measures that will improve the energy efficiency of your home, saving you money and making your home warmer.

Many energy efficiency and home improvement schemes are designed for those in receipt of certain means tested benefits or with a low household income.

BOILER UPGRADE SCHEME

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is one of the ways the UK government is hoping to meet the net-zero emissions target by 2050. The scheme will support the installation of heat pumps in England and Wales only. The new BUS scheme replaces the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) which ended on 31 March 2022.

The BUS scheme will apply to homes and small non-domestic properties in England and Wales. There will be an install capacity cap of up to 45kW. The new grant will be offered to help property owners overcome the high upfront cost heat pumps.

Energy Company Obligation (ECO Scheme)

The Energy Company Obligation (also known as the ECO scheme) is a UK government-led energy efficiency scheme that promotes the reduction of carbon emissions and tackles fuel poverty. The scheme requires the UK’s medium to large gas and electricity suppliers to financially help eligible households become more energy-efficient.

The ECO scheme

The ECO4 scheme is the final part of an ongoing government scheme to support low-income households to create more energy-efficient homes. It’s all about energy saving, aimed to make homes warmer and household emissions lower.

The ECO scheme is free to apply for and we’ve helped thousands of happy customers secure free ECO grants.

Great British Insulation Scheme
(GBIS)

The Great British Insulation Scheme extends help to those who don’t currently benefit from government support under the ECO scheme to upgrade their home. This new government-funded insulation scheme will help homes across the UK receive home insulation, extending support to those in the least energy efficient homes in the lower Council Tax bands, and targeting the most vulnerable.

Local Authority Flexible Eligibility (LA Flex)

LA Flex, also known as Local Authority Eligibility Flexibility, helps homeowners or private tenants with the installation of home energy efficiency measures. LA Flex is available to those who aren’t in receipt of tested means benefits but are living in fuel poverty or are on low income and vulnerable to living in a cold home. The application process for LA Flex will be carried out by ourselves on behalf of you the customer.

Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)

The Smart Export Guarantee, also known as the SEG tariff, is a government-backed initiative that launched on 1 January 2020. The SEG scheme provides payments for those who export excess electricity generated from their solar panels back to the National Grid. This means that if you generate electricity at home from the sun or wind, you can sell any energy you don’t use back to the grid – rather than see it go to waste.

The Smart Export Guarantee is not to be confused with the Feed-in Tariff (FIT). The SEG replaces the FIT scheme which ended on 1 April 2019 for new applicants. So, if your home or business is generating more electricity than you use, you could be eligible for Smart Export Guarantee payments.

0% VAT on Energy Saving Technologies

Installing energy efficient measures isn’t cheap, but with 0% VAT, now is the time to improve your home’s energy efficiency.

What does 0% VAT mean?

For the next five years, there’s no VAT to pay when you have energy efficient measures installed in your home. This means that you can benefit from solar panels, insulation, and heat pumps at a reduced cost with no VAT to pay.

The move is designed to encourage the installation of green technologies to help homeowners save hundreds of pounds on installation costs. 0% VAT on energy efficiency measures will be in place until 31 March 2027, and there are three energy-saving technologies included in the scheme.

EV Chargepoint Grant

The EV Chargepoint Grant provides up to a 75% contribution to the cost of an electric car charger and its installation. The grant cap is set at £350 including VAT, per installation. Find out more about the EV charging scheme and if this is applicable to you.

Are there any EV charging grants available?

Yes, the good news is that EV charging grants are available to flat owners, renters, landlords and social housing providers. The EV Chargepoint Grants replaced the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) on 1 April 2022, and this new scheme focuses on funding for flat owners, renters, landlords and social housing providers.

Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)

The scheme is open to businesses, charities and public sector organisations that meet the applicant and eligibility criteria. The scheme is beneficial to all in the workplace. Employees can charge their cars as they work, and as a business, it means that company cars can be topped conveniently.

The Workplace Charging Scheme covers up to 75% of the total costs of the purchase and installation of EV charge points (inclusive of VAT), capped at a maximum of £350 per socket, with 40 sockets across all sites per applicant.
